Our visit to the University of Central Lancashire!

Yesterday we visited the university of central lancashire.

The university has many buildings. We visited the library and took part in a quiz, discovered the student union (this has chill out areas, cafe, book shop, stationary shop and a hub). We found out that in the HUB students can look for jobs, join clubs and societies, get advice and find out about voluntary work. We saw the the buildings where students live for the first year (Halls of Residence) and ate lunch in one of the many refectories, students can buy cheap main meals whilst they are studying at the university.

The main focus of the visit was to look at forensic Science. there are 2 houses where lecturers set up crime scenes and Forensic students go in to gather evidence! We took part in a Forensic workshop and did our own fingerprints! Have a look at the photos ....

Thanks to all who attended, we will be having another Panel Meeting in Septemeber and will let you know full details shortly.

North Valley Oddies Visit and Photography Session

Fabulous day yesterday with our North valley workshop! We visited Oddies Bakery in the morning and had a fantastic interesting tour of the (spotlessly clean) factory. We were shown how they roll the pastry, make tarts and pasties and the various scary-looking machines they use to help them.

After a spot of lunch courtesy of Oddies we trekked onto Barnoldswick to take part in a professional photography session with Mark Tattersall. Mark kindly explained how he became a professional photographer and the various activities involved in his job (including enticing a new bride to walk into the sea in her wedding dress!). The young people all had a go at being a photographer, doing the lighting for the shoot, being a model and special effects lighting. (By the way Jen and Claire are sorry for accidently breaking your torch Mark)

You can see some of the photos below.

Next week come and join us on Wednesday at 9.30am at North Valley Community Centre for Sanderson’s Dance sessions and Pendle Leisure Trust (sports activities).

Inspiring Communtiies Summer Workshop!!!

Throughout the Summer we are putting on activites and events - most of these are held at North Valley Community Centre in Colne, but on some days we go out on the coach!

So far young people have taken part in the following:
  • IC Art workshop and completed 3 canvas frames: 'Our Dreams', 'Reaching Potential' and 'Our Future's Out There'.
  • Watched 'Nanny Mcphee' and took part in a job role as a journalist by writing a Film Review
  • Played an activity called 'The Game of Life' and experienced how our lives can change from the different paths we take
  • Took part in activities provided by Burnley Football club and recieved information about careers in the sport from a professional football player!

Next week we will be visiting Oddies Bakery followed by a photography session in a professional photography studio!

Other activities include: Sandersons Dance Company, Pendle Leisure Trust and University of Central Lancashire where we will be taking part in a law workshop in the universities courtroom - a bit like the board game 'Cluedo'! Places are EXTREMELY limited but if you would like to join in, get in touch and we will see what we can do!
